"Right where I'm supposed to be"
The Special Olympics 2019 Anthem is true in every sense. Since childhood, I always wanted to witness the Olympics Opening Ceremony. But I had never imagined that I would be lucky enough to be walking alongside the athletes as Delegation Assistant Liaison at the largest sports and humanitarian event. It was truly an extraordinary extravaganza full of colours, music and culture!
6943 Athletes with determination from 195 countries are here with only one message- "life's battles don't always go to the faster or the stronger ones but sooner or later the one who wins is the one who thinks he/she can!"
It is an honour to volunteer worldgamesad for specialolympics
Let the games begin!

Lets Go Team USA🇺🇸! The past 2.5 weeks have been extremely humbling and truly a blessing to have been a part of. Working with the ussoccer_pnt USA Mens Futbol 7 Paralympic team, at the 2019 Para Pan American Games in Lima, Peru was absolutely spectacular. From the opening ceremony, to winning the BRONZE 🥉medal (best finish at an Olympic game for this team), to the closing ceremony, to all the other memorable moments inbetween were just epic! The people and athletes I had the opportunity to meet and work side by side with were extraordinary and so motivating! The Peruvian people were so kind and welcoming I could have stayed a few more weeks. Counting my many blessings is something I will never stop doing🙏🏽. Congratulations to all the other USA Teams that competed, job well done!🥇🥈🥉

We're starting Homecoming Week with a Hall of Fame spotlight on this dedicated coach -- Do you remember him? Jules Gage, innovative athletic director at NHHS 1949-58, 1967-83, will be celebrated THIS Thursday October 3rd at our Hall of Fame (6:30 gather / 7:30 ceremony), so see you there! Details at link in profile!
Jules Gage graduated from Hollywood High in 1940 alongside his wife Helen. He served in the US Navy during WWII, attended UC Santa Barbara, and got his first job at NHHS as an assistant Football coach under Al Irwin. He replaced legendary Basketball coach Ralph Reed in 1952 and led the Sailors to five straight winning seasons and three Sunset League Championships. When Costa Mesa High School opened, he was tapped to establish their athletic program and set up fun-filled P.E. classes. Returning to NHHS as Athletic Director in 1967, Gage spearheaded the campaign to replace the outdated NHHS pool with an Olympic-sized one, and oversaw YMCA summer camps and high school groups. He loved a good joke which facilitated his connection to the young people he guided. After retiring from NHHS, he was a branch manager of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society to help military personnel gain important life skills. .
Before he passed in 2012, Gage was named the 1978 CIF Southern Section Athletic Director of the Year and inducted into the 2002 Daily Pilot Sports Hall of Fame. For his outstanding leadership, we celebrate the way Jules Gage brought enthusiasm and integrity to the game of life, so please join us this Thursday to honor him!
